About our Premium Countertop Surface Materials

Granite

This is by far the most common, because of its abundance in the natural world and its scratch-resistant quality. Granite is igneous rock, which is formed when hot molten lava cools into various crystalline forms. Granite withstands heat better than other products, is stain resistant when sealed, is very hard (resists scratches), and comes in hundreds of spectacular colors.

Marble

This stones comes from different circumstances in nature, but all are composed of mostly calcium carbonate. Marble is softer and more susceptible to staining, thus more frequent sealing is recommended to repel staining. Marble is recommended for vanities, fireplaces, tables, tub decks and floor tiles. Although we don’t recommend using marble for kitchen countertops because of its softness, we fabricate many and they look beautiful.

Soapstone

Soapstone is predominantly talc, like the powder, and is quite soft (1.5 on a scale from 1-10). However, it is non-reactive and non-porous so it will survive almost anything. It is virtually impossible to stain soapstone because of its density. Oiling Soapstone will darken it over time. This should be done by the homeowner to their liking.

Slate

Slate is a fine grained stone, smooth, dense and durable. Some varieties of slate are soft and easily scratched (which can be remedied with an application of mineral oil), while other varieties can be almost as hard as granite. Slate resists stains very well and is temperature tolerant.

Quartz

Quartz surfaces are made of natural quartz chips encased in a resin base. They typically are very consistent in their colors because they are made in factories, of specific mixtures of material. They do not require resealing. You can buy quartz under the names caesarstone, technistone, zodiaq, and silestone.

Corian

Corian is gorgeous to look at and easy to care for. It can be thermoformed, carved, molded, textured and routed to conform to your imagination. Normal cleaning only requires a damp cloth and a mild cleanser. Avoid using strong acidic cleansers. Do not place hot pots or pans on your corian countertop. Integrated corian sinks are also available.
